Small Business Saturday and Holiday Tree Lighting CelebrationNovember 19, 2012
Small Business Saturday, the day between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, is dedicated to promoting small businesses nationwide—by “shopping small”. This day was created in 2010 in response to small business owners’ most pressing need: creating more demand for their products and services.
South End retailers and small businesses participate in Small Business Saturday in a BIG way. Merchants will roll out their “blue” welcome mats and offer holiday specials throughout the day. We will commemorate the day at 10:00am at the Atherton Mill Market, where dozens of small businesses are incubated year-round, with Councilman James Mitchell reading a proclamation from Mayor Anthony Foxx.
South End will also host the neighborhood’s first holiday tree lighting celebration from 5:30pm – 7:00pm at Atherton Mill to cap off the day’s festivities. Revelers will enjoy complimentary hot apple cider, delectable holiday treats and live music…and at 6:00pm, the beautiful Christmas tree will be lit.
